After releasing milestone EPs between 2007 and 2008 on Pheek’s Archipel imprint, Immigrant and their home label, Cynosure, the Uruguayan duo MONOBLOCK completed a great 2009. Inaugurating the Spanish Une Label during the summer with their Introduktion EP, Monoblock also released InTensiones, their third record on Mike Shannon’s Cynosure.

Recent Berlin implants, by way of Valencia, MONOBLOCK start off 2010 right with an unabridged and superbly executed artist EP on Airdrop Records. Bringing together three tracks of different moods, the Shouting Nonsense EP reflects the richness and diversity of the various electronic concepts covered by Monoblock. Going from the most rousing and igniting grooves in Shouting Nonsense to the more stripped environment of Cienpies, via the use of live instruments in Calid.

As MONOBLOCK headlined Berlin’s Weekend Club’s Sylvester bash, and with many worldwide performances, including gigs in Japan, at London’s Fabric last month or a US tour in April, 2010 already announces itself to be greatly bounteous for the fantastic duo!

We don’t usually write about other labels and artists than ours, but something serious is profiling on the horizon Airdroppers!

Suol, the new Berlin cruise ship / label just arrived at port, with its crazy crew of captains and pirates such as Chopstick, Johnjon, Trickski and Fritz Kalkbrenner on board…
Yes, this is so terrific that we can’t do nuttin else than underline it thickly!

The name might sound fresh to you, but Suol’s haul is actually no new vessel. It is the natural evolution of its predecessor, Baalsaal Music, also steered by Cap’ Chop’. After a string of incredible records including the works of Till Von Sein, Tigerskin or Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Cap’ Chop’ and his mates are moving on to even greater things by applying an even narrower focus… on themselves!

With two records already out since the beginning of the year : Chopstick and Johnjon’s Friday Night Lights EP in January, and Fritz Kalkbrenner’s Dead End EP last week, lady Suol’s canons seem to be packed with big-time explosive… we even heard some Soul Clappings coming far away at the distance…

Also, watch out for their one page in De:Bug this month, as well as their label showcase at Watergate on March 17th!

We had been waiting for this mix for a long time and it became all the more precious that way! With much expectation, ladies and gents here is one hour of pure ANDRÉS ZACCO wonder! Boiling down a variety of the different paths he enjoys strolling on, this is yet another great introduction to the maestro’s world.

You surely remember Andrés’ timeless record on Airdrop last year, the ‘Seated Hopping EP‘. Well start buckin’ up as we can tell you that the man will be back very soon with a most moving record : the ‘Something In Your Smile EP‘. You lucky-lucky ones can actually get a sneek peek of it in this mix! Also present on the mix : Cobblestone Jazz’s new single ‘Chance’ on Wagon Repair / !K7, a Daniel Stefanik bomb and most importantly, an exclusive preview of Lucas Mari’s next record for Greener Records…

For those of you not yet familiar with it, Greener Records is ANDRÉS ZACCO’s label. Founded in 2008 the project already counts with releases and remixes by Leonel Castillo, Franco Cinelli, Lineas De Nazca and Kai Maan. Following Castillo’s brilliant El Niño, Andres has already announced the next Greener release, and surprise-surprise! He will be responsible for him.

To celebrate this string of releases properly, ANDRÉS ZACCO will be coming to Europe in June 2010 ! This will be a memorable moment for the public as it will be Andrés’ first time ever on the old continent…

“Late last year, XLR8R commissioned a number of city-themed podcasts to celebrate the launch the City Guide mobile application [...] For this installment, we check in with Boston, one of the oldest cities in the US, albeit not one necessarily known as a hotbed of electronic music. Yet folks like Soul Clap are looking to change that, as DJ veterans Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine not only oversee some of the city’s finest parties, they’ve also been busy taking their soulful, disco-infused brand of techno around the globe, producing all sorts of remixes and re-edits, and dropping the extremely well-received RnB FreE.P (click here to download). On this mix, they’ve employed a number of their own concoctions, along with a few of their Beantown favorites, and cooked up a smooth, slow-burning musical journey that does Boston proud.” Words : Shawn Reynaldo for XLR8R – Check for playlist below

After inaugurating our string of free releases with an exclusive remix by Berlin Tech-House maestro TILL VON SEIN, followed by a three RnB edits by Boston House duo SOUL CLAP, Airdropped presents a full length album by Airdrop regulars, FASE.

Pedro Perelman & Gustavo “Defi” Gagliardo are the musicians and artists behind the multifaceted Argentine collective, FASE. On their website – www.mundofase.com – you can discover the whole world of creations emanating from these guys, ranging from video production to contemporary painting, street art and of course, fine electronic music.

After many releases on Argentina’s seminal record label Igloo, various records on Airdrop, as well as large European and North American tours, the boys are back again. The wicked world of FASE where music, painting and street art all warp into one, creates yet another entire universe consisting of organically evolving structures, adapting to the evolution of music.

For Airdropped 03, FASE delivers “Give Us A Break“, an experimental and explorational record. Providing two variations – an A-side and a B-side – to each one of six themes this project combines a certain nostalgia on the A-sides, to more sanguineness on the B-sides. “Give Us A Break” offers an entire journey to the West : its scorched textures and wooden aromas set us straight in the deserted backdrop of a road movie – deep and reflexive.

12.	Fade Out (B-side)

Through the A-sides, we find ourselves on the burning banks of a river. The harmonicas and guitars hold in their melodies a clear country and funk root, juxtaposing with breaky and minimal rythmical structures.

The album’s title track “Give Us A Break” is the soundtrack to an adult’s awakening, going from vertigo through to more sensitives landscapes, while “Lighter Slide” mocks itself of human conduct and everlasting fights, in loop…

On the B-sides, the folk melodies evolve into deeper and more hypnotic lines. The harmonies knit themselves around solid grooves and the range of frequencies move us to a twilight-fête where the warm and organic are kings. The B-side variations present cyclical, yet disarticulated and ironical rhythms. A certain open-air dancefloor focus is indeed preserved here.

Produced by Fase: Pedro Perelman & Gustavo “Defi” Gagliardo in Buenos Aires
between October and December of 2009

It’s time again! And it’s the third time already! It’s Time To Get Ill! After two historical moments being written on NYC grounds: setting DJ Three & Doc Martin for a 6 hours battle, or bringing the one and only Robag Wruhme in town, Crazy Larry makes it a point to throw it down, right and proper.

This time makes no exception: hosting Mr. C & Adultnapper’s Sycophant Slags project, as well as Cheap Sunglasses regular Martin Landsky, Crazy Larry is offering us yet another privileged visit to the gods on Mount Techno, right here in NYC, on Saturday February 20th.

Location will be announced the Friday before the event. Please RSVP to receive the location: http://bit.ly/get_iLL

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

A few words from the Crazy:

“This business for me as always been about family. The ever growing, always changing techno family that encompasses the globe. Every once in a while that family comes together for a very special night, and with a little bit of luck and hard work Feb 20th has turned into just that. With everyones hectic schedules, tour dates, video shoots, and studio time, it can be really hard to get everyone together. The techno gods have smiled upon us this February however, and brought some of my favourite family members together.

Having known Mr. C from the early days in Denver to my relocation to NY, having him and Francis together is certainly a special one for me. Going back to the after parties @ the Jackson House in Denver all the way to the warehouse parties in NYC, its been such good times. Also, being involved with the filming of the music video here in NY really tops it all off.

Martin Landsky has been one of my favourite producers since I have been buying records. After 6 years of trying to get him over to the the states, I was able to produce a great event in Miami for his first time in the US. Since then I have had him play in Denver, Detroit for DEMF, and now NY. Keeping Martin close to the underground is definitely the formula for creating those unforgettable sets he has become so famous for. This time he gets at least 5 hours, so lets see where this one goes……

Without the help of Taimur and Fahad, and our dear Memo amongst others, you know who you are…. I would never have been able to make the move to NYC. Its my great pleasure to have them on the opening duties for 4 hours, so make sure you get there early, and stay late, as this one is sure to hurt your feet, but be worth the pain:)

Never before have I had so many of my favourite people all in the same place for the same party. Get your tickets early, as those discounted tix will surely go fast!!”

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Line-up:

Mr. C & Adultnapper pres. “Sycophant Slags” (Poker Flat / Ransom Note / Superfreq)

Martin Landsky (Poker Flat / Berlin)

Taimur & Fahad (BLK|Market / NYC)

Crazy Larry (Time to Get iLL / Airdrop)

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Secret Location:
Must RSVP to timetogetillNYC@gmail.com for location and details.

Custom Dynacord Soundsystem

Limited Discount Pre Sales available:

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?142597

Halcyon will be representing the party as well, with a special vinyl assortment to complete your aural fixation. Make sure to come check out the Halcyon booth at the event, old school Rave style.

We will also be doing a very special NY exclusive first screening of the Music Video for the release. Filmed in NY, cast with NYers, enjoyed by many. See you on the Dance floor!

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Also, save the date for Locodice, Martin Buttrich, and Livio & Roby March 20th at Pacha. TTGI will also be doing the official afterhours for the Desolate bus tour all day Sunday March 21st upstairs in the “Pachita” Lounge. More details coming soon!

When we discovered that Bleed, one of our favourite writers in the fundamental German music magazine De:Bug, had written not 1, not 2, not 3… but 4 reviews on our latest record releases (AD012 / AD013 / AUX01 / AUX02), we quite simply fell from our chairs, onto our buttocks! All four reviews are very positive and builds some constructive criticism, which has us shine like proud kids who just received a sticker for good conduct! Read all the reviews below and get yourself a copy of De:Bug #139, the Jan/Feb 2010 edition!

—

Cape – Rosario United – Le Post Remixes
[Airdrop Records/012]

‘Afterawua’ ? Am I getting this right ? In any case, Franco Cinelli’s remix which opens the record is pure joy. Nice dubby touches, a delicate ride, a melodically funky bassline, a few violon strings and something from a totally old school groove, spiced with minimal synths that shine in the higher frequencies. A track sprinkled with small explosions. ‘Desasters’, remixed by Nico Purman heterogenically mixes acid synth lines, gaudy percussions, while still conveying some sensuality. Andres Zacco puts a strong emphasis on the dazing side of ‘Afterawua’ but only the volatile harmonics of Jorge Savoretti’s ‘Family.ar’ remix, can pretend to share the vibe with Cinelli’s rework.
BLEED

—

Tanner Ross & Sergio Santos – Space Cakes EP
[Airdrop Records/013]

Tanner Ross (of Voodeux fame) and Sergio Santos form quite an unusual team. The title track, Space Cakes, brings hope as it shows that there still is a lot of space for original grooves coming from the depths of slow BPMs, often dominated by stale disco. This is for me one of the Slo-Mo hits of the year! Warm organs in the background, swirling sound effects on the vocals and the whole surrounded by so much groove that one could only wish they duo only made tracks like that, inaugurating a new genre. ’Excuse Me While I Hit This’ is similarly relaxed, but this time with children voices and different parts switching radically from sparkling melodies to a soft yet super efficient groove, getting even closer to the warm blooming sound which is at the foundation of House music. It smells like freshly cut grass. One of the House EPs of the month.
BLEED

—

Club Rayo & Franco Cinelli – The Fever Mixes
[Aux-Rec/001]

Aux-Rec hails from France, with a courageous intent to produce a new House-kicking variant of ‘You Give Me Fever’. The ‘King Dub’ is a phat classic funk-dub with rests of Elvis’ voices and a lot of acid in the background. The ‘Fitzgerald Mix’ focuses on Ella Fitzgerald’s swinging vocals, stimulated even further with flourishing delays. Franco Cinelli’s remix is the most House-accentuated groove on the record, and in bonus we are even offered a cheminee-side guitar variant.
BLEED

—

Soul Clap / Childhood ‘87 – Baker Man / Caught Up
[Aux-Rec/002]

The label’s second EP shows a clear orientation towards a bluesy house retakes, that sometimes, as with ‘Baker Man’ (the original is from Laid Back) exagerate a little on their position. However the Childhood ‘87 track is pure old-school House bliss with soul vocals and this ’70s sample which made the bright days of Inner Life. Vintage Diva-House.
BLEED

—

Translated from German to French by Antoine Bigot
and then from French to English by Paulo ^^

Knowing about the tidalwave that was coming up with our second Aux-Rec release, we prompted the boys behind the CHILDHOOD ‘87 project to create what is without a doubt the most exciting AirPod episode so far!

LE LOUP & FUNKALICIOUS JAMES are the two childhood buddies behind this podcast and the amazing Inner Life edit on AUX02’s B-Side : Caught Up, has been lifting the spirits and elevating the floors over the last few months.

Being born the same year, growing up together and dancing break in their teens, the two rascals share similar ideas develloped here into one historically dense mix.

Raw old-school grooves, gritty house, disco and carefully selected songs à la Moodymann, make up for the perfect blend : calling sunshine into the cold weather, breaking the thick winter cloud layer… (Watch out for Funkalicious James’ edit of Janet Jackson’s “That’s The Way Love Goes”…)

This 35th episode prepared with love, respect and mastery by CHILDHOOD ‘87 is undoubtedly our favourite. Enjoy this soundtrack to an ardent mahogany evening, ’til the little hours.

Right on the heels of Aux-Rec’s enthusiastically received 1st release featuring very contemporary revisits of the 1950’s classic “Fever” by Franco Cinelli and Club Rayo, this 2nd chapter of the Aux-Rec project travels to different eras, into different styles. And this is precisely what we had set to do: zig-zag through dance music history in search of personal favorites and classics to be revisited or refreshed.

For the present release, we travel to two distinct dates: 1989 for the A-side, and 1979 for the B-side. Two tracks that are 10 years apart, but that both share a fiercely upbeat and affirmative musical profile, as well as a certain ageless, core, compositional quality. In this release you will find groove of the highest standard, infused with subtle mood and feeling, that will take the pre-party into the party, and the waiting lounge into the airplane.

‘Baker Man’ was Danish duo Laid Back’s second hit after the even more popular ‘White Horse’… so good a track that it deserved to be reworked and revived! The original groove of ‘Baker Man’ was already highly infectious back then. A simple yet effective composition of electric guitar, horns, organ and soulful female vocals that brings the image of a joyful road trip to mind. The lazy male vocals and melody, and the incoherent lyrics, give the track an absolute downtempo and trippy feel to it.

Soul Clap (the highly sought after and extremely hot Boston duo) with their inimitable mighty touch of turning anything soulful into something supremely soulful, have taken the positivity and groove of the track to an even more powerful degree. The rhythmic traits of the track are pumped, enhanced and sharpened. And the trippy, “weightless” quality of the song is developed through additional long, floating keys and quirky effects (for even more weightless experience, check the original music video of the song by Lars von Trier!)

Our second track features a wild yet chic rework of Inner Life’s “Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” by Childhood ‘87, who are none other than the highly talented and up-and-coming Le Loup, along with his childhood buddy Funkalicious James. Our two Frenchmen apply an innovative disco-house touch that takes the Inner Life classic to new danceable heights while maintaining Jocelyn Brown’s signature diva vocals for a ripping effect!

VINYL ONLY!
