December 29, 2008

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The year is over! And what a year this one has been… a happy, eventful and gratifying year for us and our faithful AIRDROPPERS. Unfortunately this hasn’t been the case in the rest of the world. With so many social ordeals and structural fallacies, those who have always suffered keep on suffering. But let’s not let go of our great hopes for change. 2009 will be thought-provoking, to say the least, and the world needs that stimulation – upside down… inside out!

To create the link between ’08 and ’09 and to provide all of you with the most amazing grooves for the holidayzz what’s better than the sublime set and sounds of one of this ending year’s most interesting revelations, coming straight from France – AIRDROP’s birth country: MASOMENOS! Look out for the amazing remix MASOMENOS operated of SOUL CLAP’s GIRAFFE earlier this year – it’s located towards the end of the mix.

But wait wait, here is the best piece of news: MASOMENOS WILL BE TROPICALIZING NYC’s COLD WINTER, ON JANUARY 3rd of 2009 – and at our favourite spot: BAR 13! There we go, the bridge between both years is established, the buckle is buckled, 2009 will be amazing! Remember these words and make it happen! Fire it up! Ready to go!

SATURDAY JANUARY 3rd 2009

December 17, 2008

a-716-1160760126

Everyone already knows about it, The End – the great London club – will be closing its doors at the end of this month after 13 years of parties. Indeed the 23rd and 24th of January, will be the last week-end of a venue that has hosted the best artists and the craziest nights in the world. The farewell started on December 6th with Sven Väth and lasts for more than a month in total. Joe Claussel was part of the festivities and played along Jerome Sydenham for a night of exception. He answered to a few questions before the gig and speaks about playing at a Sumo wrestling party, his musical origins, running Dance Tracks and a lot more: read it all here.

ABOVE – on LatAm Tour – baffles Chile

December 16, 2008

ABOVE, one of our favorite street artists just completed his South America tour with interventions from Brazil to Chile. This particular work was completed in Chile. I would have expected something a bit different from an artist whose latest works have been more socio-economic in their criticism, but then again, this may just be a more subtle approach. In any case, he does show a sense of humor “rite”? YES, he does. Read through his website and try to buy one of his paintings to realize that ABOVE really is on to something. Check out some of his other works and projects here. Visit supertouchart for more!

AD DIG005 – RESTART & STONE vs. VIESSE
A1 EP (w/ MIRCO VIOLI RMX) – OUT NOW!

December 15, 2008

<<<< OUT NOW ON BEATPORT >>>>

VIESSE and RESTART & STONE are two young Napolitan DJ/ Producers duos.

Raffaele Arcella and Joele D’Angelo – aka VIESSE – are two young Napolitan DJ/ Producers. They started this artistic enterprise only recently, but were soon happy with their results thanks to their strongly determined passion. They like dynamic sounds under the influence of classic house and new electronics, one that really fits the various Napolitan dancefloors!

Riccardo Inizio and Pietro Rianna – aka RESTART & STONE – were born close to the Vesuve. They started djing and music editing in 2004 with their previous project called “The OP”. Thanks to their strong sound, they reside at the ”Velvet Zone”, a very important Napolitan underground club where they shared their dj performance with Anja Schneider, Frankie and Justin Berkmann. They consider their music to be a mirror to contemporary life.

For this special A1 EP, both duos put their efforts together to bring some uplifiting sounds to our ears. The four lads collaborate together in happiness and this reflects undoubtedly on their music. In addition to this, we enrolled the remixing talents of the young MIRCO VIOLI who has been making all of our feet twist the last few months. So here it is, the A1 EP, rays of sun and tastes of Italian land in the middle of this COLD COLD WINTER

Blu in Berlin – November 2008

December 14, 2008

Sometime ago, we had dedicated a post to the fantastic Italian artist Blu. We thought that you would all be happy to end this year 2008, with some news from him. So here is a video of his recent intervention that happened in November in Berlin. Funny thing being, in the process – you can actually see him covering some of Fase’s signature characters, that they had done on their Berlin trip last year!! I think many of us would like to thank Blu for bringing such a great new dimension to street art and activism over the past few years. So check out the video below to see the whole making of the PIECE. Also check out his website by clicking here for all his most recent news.

AIRDROP PUPPY CRACK RELEASE PARTY

December 9, 2008

BeyondBooking presents The Bunker

AIRDROP PUPPYCRACK RECORD RELEASE PARTY
Mikael Stavöstrand (Sunset Diskos, Adjunct, AirDrop | Los Angeles) LIVE PA
Soul Clap (AirDrop, Mental Groove | Boston)

We’ve been discussing a collaborative party with AIRDROP & The Bunker for some time now, and we finally do it tonight to celebrate the soon to be released Soul Clap’s “Puppycrack” EP, which features a remix by Mikael Stavöstrand.

Mikael Stavöstrand is no stranger to electronic music. He was producing experimental and industrial music throughout the ’90s as Inanna. In 2001, he became a leader of the outsider minimal techno sound when he released his debut album on Force Inc under his own name. Since then, he has been releasing killer 12″s on a slew of friends’ and collaboratos’ labels, such as Dapayk’s Mo’s Ferry, Patrik Skoog’s We Are, [a]pendics.shuffle’s Adjunct, Jay Haze’s Contexterrior, as well as NYC label Thema and of course AIRDROP. While many artists in minimal techno seem content to follow the latest trends and use the same plug-ins to
produce predictable, unchallenging music, Mikael has always been a leader, pushing forward new sounds and ideas that really stand out from the pack. He played one of the best live set we’ve ever heard at The Bunker in October of ’07, which never became a podcast only because the recorder wasn’t set up properly! We’re super excited to hear how the set has evolved over the past year.
http://www.myspace.com/mikaelstavostrand

Soul Clap is Elyte and Cnyce, two DJs/ producers from Boston who have made a big splash in the past year with multiple releases on AIRDROP. The first release was “Giraffe” on 10″ yellow vinyl, then came the “die Ente”, which means “Duck” in German, and now the “Puppy Crack” 12″ … clearly these guys are obsessed with animal sounds! In the past year, these guys have played at big European clubs like Ministry of Sound in London and the Paradiso in Amsterdam, and are coming to NYC straight from December appearances in Denver, LA, and San Francisco. They play constantly in Boston, where they’ve organized amazing events like
the Dancing On The Charles parties, which brought acts like Vincenzo and Trus’ Me to an amazing outdoor venue in Cambridge. Clearly these guys are on to something, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to their Bunker debut in celebration of their new record.

Plus Resident DJ:
Derek Plaslaiko (The Bunker, Spectral | NYC)

AIRDROP PRESENTS EXTRACTION TOUR
>>> SAN FRANCISCO EDITION <<<

December 8, 2008

We are getting closer to Extraction’s release with gigs all over the Northern American continent. The 28th of November 2008 Elon, Tanner Ross and Soul Clap will be taking over Miami – December 5th Soul Clap will be paying a visit to Crazy Larry in Denver and a week after in San Francisco with Alland Byallo and J.Phlip at the End Up’s Phonic night.

Do not miss out on EXTRACTION in Miami, Denver and SF.

J.Phlip
– www.myspace.com/jphlip
Jessica Rose Phillippe was born in the small town of Champaign, Illinois, two hours south of the Chicago conurbation, and now lives in SF. J.Phlip’s origins and new home account in a big way for the nature of her style: a unique blend of house, techno and hyphy. J.Philip releases her productions on San Francisco’s Dirtybird and she makes a fantastic contribution to the potent local scene.

Tanner Ross
– www.myspace.com/tannerrossbeats

Tanner is just one of those super-producers. He has an ear like no other, has developed his own unique styles, and keeps everyone waiting to hear what’s next. Tanner has different aliases depending on his musical mood: his Voodeux moniker translates a super dark spooky stripped down techno sound, while the name Marcel Wave is characteristic of a sunnier and somewhat deeper atmosphere. Currently finishing his degree at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, this has not stopped Tanner from finding time to release EP’s for some of the most respected labels: Dirtybird, Mothership, Freerange, and soon Spectral. Tanner has played along many of the most talented artists in the US, such as Matthew Dear or Claude VonStroke.

Elon – www.djelon.com

It did not take Elon a long time to go from being a DJ to one of the most sought after emerging producers of the US scene. Elon fused his instrumental background, guitar and bass, with innovative sound engineering to create an unmistakable sound: splattered reverb and juicy metallic swing. He calls it “post minimal”! His productions have been released on major labels such as Clink, Dumb Unit or Made to Play.

Soul Clap – www.soulclap.us

By harnessing the past Soul Clap looks to the future, with forward thinking productions and remixes, creative DJ sets and some of Boston’s best dance music events. Each summer they organize the highly praised Dancing On The Charles and, every Wednesday they host Midweek Techno, Boston’s longest running techno night. Soul Clap released their first two vinyl records on AIRDROP, The Giraffe and die Ente, receiving remixes by Franco Cinelli and Tanner Ross respectively. With remixes coming out on Mental Groove, Fade and OM Records and with their new “Puppycrak” EP on AIRDROP (featuring a remix by Mikael Stavöstrand) you will keep hearing about them. Always pushing new boundaries, always traveling through time and space, Soul Clap truly is the Great White Hope.

AIRPOD 16 – PUNISHER @ DEMF 2008

December 7, 2008

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Exactly a month ago, we had the chance to receive Punisher and Sassmouth at Midweek Techno in Boston… and yes we were all immediately hypnotized. The duo embodies a great blend, each of the girls bringing their yin and yang. Both shared some music and my favourite piece remained Sassmouth’s “No Sleep ’til Kuujjauq” on Hej Records, Punisher’s imprint. Sass moved from Chicago to London earlier in the year. And around that time we also had the chance to assist Punisher’s pounding set on the Real Detroit Stage @ Detroit Electronic Music Festival in May 2008. It’s the recording of this set we are honored to send you today! Punisher’s Super High-Octane Beats will not give you a millisecond to even think about resting!! Also here is more info about Punisher’s great and long experience:

“Hailing from Detroit, Michelle Herrmann better know as just Punisher, is a petite techno veteran that packs a powerful punch. An observer and artist by nature, Michelle was drawn to music and the creative side of life since the beginning. She was fortunate to find her way into the Detroit techno scene in the early 90’s when the energy was awe inspiring, and from that moment Punisher emerged. From her career’s onset in 1993 at only 15 years old, Michelle has set a precedent of raising the bar high for all things Punisher through flawless productions and dance floor igniting DJ and live PA sets.

Very early on Michelle realized that being a DJ alone would not be enough to contain her artistic creativity and prowess. Trying to get closer to the music and release the sounds within, Michelle purchased some drum machines and was on her way to the next level. In 1996 and 1997, within a few years of learning the science of the synths, Punisher put out her first two twelve inch EPs on Sean Deason’s Detroit based label Matrix Records. Seeking to push forth the concepts of sound and motion, in 1998 she launched the seminal Detroit label, Seismic Records in addition to her collaboration with legendary producer Mark Gage of Vapourspace. The label quickly gained much critical respect with collaborations from many world renowned producers. Seismic has seen releases from the likes of the Advent, Bryan Zentz, and Andrei Morant. Through licensing by Dave Clarke, Bill Nasty and others, Seismic had become a strong international techno label.

This musical energy we refer to as “techno” is limitless and over the years as technology has prevailed, the music has evolved. Punisher’s style has progressed and grown along with the industry as if connected to a part of “techno” as a whole. Michelle’s musical creativity is currently being propelled into her latest undertaking – the founding of new label, Hej Records – with John Overfiend and Sassmouth at the core. Hej was founded with a vision: ‘making a mark in the evolution of musical energy’. Hej’s premiere EP in 2007 entitled “Enter The Hej” with tracks by Punisher and Dave Powers, is a release emphasizing the innovative and energetic flavor of the label. Hej will put forth an onslaught of both vinyl and net tracks from a wide range of International and Midwestern talent. Punisher’s music has also landed her upcoming immediate releases and remixes for Prosthetic Pressings, Open Concept Recordings, and of course Hej.”

ANNOUNCING AD 004 – FASE
SWIM EP(w/ DILO REMIX)

December 1, 2008

SUPPORTED BY PHEEK – FRANCO CINELLI – PAUL MAC – SEPH – SEBBO
TIM XAVIER – SOUL CLAP – DEREK PLASLAIKO – CHRIS FORTIER

The Buenos Aires-bred audio-visual quartet Fase Miusic Sender strike back with fierce power, possibly inspired by their recent stint in the United States: the promising AIRDROP talents toured various states, roaming the reduced outskirts of offshore electronics and undoubtedly turning on hundreds of people who thought that all is lost!

After delivering the smashing “Tres EP”, AIRDROP’s groundbreaking second digital release (featuring a remix by Sr. Replicante), the micromalic underground beast that is Fase Miusic Sender has more impact than ever, and it’s down to its driving forces to push things forward.

“I Swim Slow” is possibly the result of taking a bath in deep rhythms that bang so syrupy that the dive feels more like a hump. But: watch out! Despite shuffling reluctantly the stream takes you and pulls you into a dark abyss constructed out of evil chords that create a fierce little paranoia. You can’t escape.

Even more mind-bending: Dilo’s Remix. The well-known, producer and Igloo label boss manages to capture mind and body with the steady rhythm only to confuse them with his highly aural sounds that make it impossible not to get totally sucked up by the weirdness of the music.

“Chacarita Ho” is a creepy creature strutting the tree walled walk ways near the cemetery looking for her seedy clientele. Watch out she does not empty out your pockets while she gives you that free instand climax blow job.

To top things off, the release comes with a digital-only bonus track called “I Swim Back” that sees the swirling structures reverses and chewed up focusing on the sheer power of the elements – huge reverbs and metallic clicks – making it an extremely powerful monster of a track that is immensely compelling.

Again, the wicked world of Fase where music, painting, street art and motion graphics all warp into one is like an entire universe consisting of organically evolving structures, adapting to the evolution of music. Music that’s creating visuals, visuals creating music… and music that is creating a brainstorm. You have been warned…
