Here is a very special taste of our future!
Why so special? For one, it comes from our beloved Connie who has produced her first release, “Red Hot,” a big-banger under the Constar alias. On top of this, the track is part of the Extraction US compilation that will be releasing on December 23rd. The project focused on “extracting” some of the greatest emerging and established artists from the US electronic music scene and uniting them on our compilation.
Constar - DJ Connie’s alias for her production works. As a DJ, Connie stands as the leading woman figure of the New York underground dance music scene. Having played around the country and the globe with the most respected talents, Connie continues to make a name for herself as a resident for ReSolute NYC, a top underground electronic music party, where she takes care of bookings with her partner in crime, Elon. It is an honor for AIRDROP to showcase her first released production on this compilation.
RA has just written a little article about the project and are very much looking forward to the release just as much as to all the Extraction parties that will take place from San Francisco and NYC to Miami, Denver and Boston. This is our second “Extraction” in our series that began with Argentina (see it here).

Our homies Soul Clap just did a very special Thanksgiving mix for Daily Candy Boston. Its super fresh with some dance-funky oldies and newer jams to help you digest. You can listen to the mix here!
Don’t forget that Soul Clap will be bring some of the holiday goodness to the warmer climates of Miami for the AIRDROP EXTRACTION party! Check out the shindigs for details.

PEACE DIVISION & The Universe of UK House by Ada Hutchinson for the Weekly Dig
Ada writes:
“In house music, the London scene has always been underground. An urban landscape where jungle, trance and grime can crush the competition, London’s house-heads struggle to survive, in part due to their devotion to music other than house. Peace Division, though, is starting to rattle some cages. “The way house music has developed in the UK is totally different to any other country,” writes Justin Drake from London. “Right from the start, you had DJs like Andy Weatherall with totally eclectic tastes.”
Drake is one-half of a decade-long duo whose star has climbed far enough to be featured on “BBC Essential Mix,” the premiere showcase for dance music in the world. “When you look back at who’s done [a guest mix], you realize that you are in seriously good company,” writes Drake. “It’s been good to be acknowledged like this. Personally I’m more of a hobbit and I don’t really get involved in too much networking.”
Drake is very much in step with his London house brethren, having been raised on an multifaceted diet, which, in turn, churns out similarly schizophrenic music. “People were listening to the Happy Mondays and My Bloody Valentine,” he says of his generation’s growth. “Things were really mixed up.” Drake continues to find inspiration outside of the 4/4 beat, name-checking Vampire Weekend, Late of the Pier and Glasvegas as recent discoveries.
Peace Division’s sudden success still befuddles Drake. “We have been doing this for a long time, wondering if anyone will be interested in the music that we’re making,” he says. “I’ve never felt that we’ve reached our potential. That’s what keeps you going.

Crazy Larry – www.myspace.com/crazylarree
This set was recorded at the announcement party for the EXTRACTION US compilation at Bar 13 in September. Larry plays a top-groovy set in between a succession of Soul Clap and Tanner Ross tags. We are getting closer to Extraction’s release with gigs all over the Northern American continent. The 28th of November 2008 Elon, Tanner Ross and Soul Clap will be taking over Miami - December 5th Soul Clap will be paying a visit to Crazy Larry in Denver and a week after in San Francisco with Alland Byallo and J.Phlip at the End Up’s Phonic night. Larry will also be opening for Cassy in Miami on the Saturday 29th November… Unmissable.
As you start listening to the mix, here is more info on the unique one they call Crazy Larry:
With no rave scene and virtually no radio support in most American markets, kids like Crazy Larry were forced to discover the wonders of dance music on their own accord. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Larry Ursini is a young talent that has no fear when it comes to new technology and embraces it fully. Upon graduating from high school Larry enrolled in the Audio Engineering program at CU Denver. He also started doing his own Live PA in January of 2006, debuting in NYC for his closest friend in dance music, Taimur Agha. The live performance incorporates vintage drum machines; live home made plug-ins, and even the Nintendo Wii! Larry also teamed up with Pier Bucci while he was in town for a gig, and they subsequently released a joint EP under the Glacier moniker for Wagon Repair. If you’re after quality rather than chart topping hits, you’ll definitely want to give Crazy Larry a listen. AIRDROP will be pressing a couple of Larry’s track in 2009. Prepare for take off…

In collaboration with the Cheap Sunglasses crew, RA will be bringing the deep house doyens, Dixon and Âme, to San Francisco’s famed End Up club. The Bay area club is so named because that’s where you inevitably “end up” at the end of the night—or later—and that’s exactly what Dixon and Kristian will be doing, as they’re scheduled to play late into Saturday night in Los Angeles before heading to San Fran for this shindig which begins at noon and ends at 8 PM.
Holding down things in those early hours before the main attractions get there will be the Cheap Sunglasses guys: New York’s Taimur Agha and Denver’s Crazy Larry (check out his coming releases on AIRDROP). The duo have been throwing the most fantastic parties around American electronic music festivals (WMC, DEMF, Decibel, Minitek), and this will be the first time that they’ve run an event without the benefit of that built-in audience. With Dixon and Kristian set to headline, we think that won’t be much of a problem at all.
For all of those in NYC who love art, want to see something new or just need some hair work, stop by Fringe Salon (248 Broome st, btw Orchard and Ludlow) on Tuesday November 11th at 7:30 PM to see works by our very talented ceramicist, Anda Stelian. There will be wine and appetizers for those that come early!
Check out a small preview of the pieces and more info about the artist below:
Anda Stelian was born in Romania, migrated to Belgium, lived in France, Italy and New York. All of these moves, and the back-and-forth between Paris and New York shaped her perceptions of the World and ceramic works.
Initially a trained Belgian Architect, but after practicing architecture in Belgium, France and New York, Anda turned to ceramics in 1995 as a hobby. In 2003 Anda decided to concentrate on Ceramics and after professional classes at the Institut Francais de la Céramique de Sèvres (the prestigious French Ceramics Institut at Sevres), she set up her own studio, bought her kiln and started giving ceramic classes to kids and adolescents. Anda has participated in competitions and thematic exhibitions in France as a way to visit new subjects that she would not have done instinctively. The results of participating or working on imposed subjects explains her diverse portfolio of works.
Currently, Anda works out of the Greenwich Pottery House in New York City. Over the years, Anda has developed a unique and innovative style, fusing the 3-D and material elements of ceramics with illustration as she creates her signature square tablets evoking themes of life, nature, sexuality and even legends. The works that will be shown at Fringe are some of her more recent ones. For more information or requests to see some of her other pieces, please contact us.

Pat Fontes’ knowledge of electronic music has made him into what many have stated as a ‘connoisseur of sorts’. Pat’s style of DJing and production is an utterly unique and healthy mixture of house and techno genres, sometimes going beyond into a more experimental approach. Pat was brought up in a Boston suburb by his Portuguese mother. With now over a decade of DJing experience he was also the former owner and manager, of now legendary Satellite Records Boston. Being quoted by his peers as “Mr. Techno”, Pat is a walking encyclopedia of electronic music. In addition to his newfound AIRDROP familia, Pat has released on such labels as Thoughtless Music or Monism.
This time around Mr. Techno offers a different type of selection. You will quickly come to wonder why you started dancing alone in the train! Here Pat uses the best rolling drums and surprising vocals of many different provenances along this mix. In case you forgot, Pat only plays with his cherished vinyls. The tracklist below is only half of the tunes he used for this mix, there were too many layers to list them all… Have fun track-identifying!
