We are very proud to announce the release of our third record: El Erizo by the “Too Young To Be Famous”: Minimaril (see Extraction Argentina). The “Samba EP” followed, Minimaril’s first full release and AirDrop’s second digital outing, was a digital treat which is why AirDrop chose him to produce the next record: “El Erizo”. No problem at all as the young Venezuelan churns out tunes faster than an assembly-line worker on speed. The 19-year old DJ and producer prodigy who started taking over the clubs at the tender age of 14, is literally unstoppable.
After a happy childhood during which Mariano half-heartedly learned how to play the piano, he started playing the drums which would soon become his main instrument, happily drumming away in his mate’s garage every day–when he is not practicing his DJ sets that is. In his head, as he does not even own turntables!!! Yes, that’s right. The guy’s a miracle!
Electronic music fascinates him to the degree that he can’t ever stop making tracks! His unbiased, fresh and energetic interpretation of floor-friendly sound has made him AirDrop’s Number One Newcomer Hope of the Year, and now Minimaril actually excels himself again, ready to overrun the floors with his new release: “El Erizo” which translates to “the hedgehog” is a super special three-tracker that is bursting with bustling, heavily delayed beats and heavy-pounding, bouncy bleeps.
Exploring the deep-space sensation that a minima(ri)l arrangement offers as it leaves lots of room for great sonic experiences of the three-dimensional kind, Minimaril is offering three tight and sublimely sexy mid-tempo workouts that pound steadily while steering deep into psychoactive waters. What or whoever was the inspiration for “Canadian Football Match” and the whispering voice-sample filled “Suz”, it is down to Mariano’s magic mind that the whole experience turns into some dangerously dark, driving and seductive material to fuel the floors. You have been warned! And we mean it.
El Erizo EP received support by Butane, Chris Fortier, Derek Plaslaiko , Eric Cloutier, Mental Groove, Restart & Stone, Sebbo, Tom Hoch, Inanna and Minimal Land.

Last minute operations are always more exciting, so this week we have engaged ourselves in a bit of a rescue opp, saving the Uruguayan duo Monoblock from the Canadians to bring them back to NYC to finally make a truly notable US debut.
Unfortunately, their initial planned live performance was a bit turbulent with the necessary last minute minitek venue changes, so here we are parachuting them back in for a very special live performance at Bar 13 alongside Eric Cloutier and a couple very very special guests. This Rescue Op is sure to be one to remember and who knows when or where the next one may happen. Come early!
Line Up:
+ MONOBLOCK
Monoblock was formed in 2004 by Martin TC and Guikle, after relocating from their native Uruguay to Valencia, Spain. Combining diverse genre signifiers over a rich techno landscape, the Monoblock sound demonstrates a keen sense of rhythm and groove rarely seen in such young artists. Having conquered many of the most important clubs in Valencia including Spook, Le Club and Barraca to a name but a few, they quickly began receiving performance invitations from some of Europe’s most respected venues, including Overflow at Metro Dance Club in Alicante, Berlin’s Watergate, and the newly established Monza club in Ibiza among others. Their productions and remixes have been released by such labels as Cynosure, Freak n Chic, Archipel, Immigrant and Minuendo, and charted but many of the industry’s most respected DJs.
+ ERIC CLOUTIER
In a genre and movement all too predictable with the same fifty records playing forever on a continuous loop, Eric Cloutier is quietly making himself stand out amongst Detroit’s next generation of producers and DJ’s. He began on the same circuit of Detroit parties and clubs most have traveled, eventually establishing residencies at Ann Arbor’s Necto and Detroit’s prominent after hours party spot, The Works. He also performed at both 2004’s Movement festival as well as 2006’s Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and has shared the decks with fellow Detroit DJ’s Matthew Dear, Derek Plaslaiko and Ryan Elliott. In 2005, he was handpicked as a chosen replacement for the next batch of DJ’s at Detroit’s monthly Untitled parties. He has since gone on to be label manager for the label Subtrak, which is slowly making waves amongst deeper minimal fans. Tasteful yet mildly abrasive, his blend of minimal techno infused with dub sensibilities firmly entrenches his sound in Detroit’s rich past while looking towards the future.
As usual, NYC can never get enough of some nice electronic music and for every taste. This week’s duel is between Carl Craig and SuperMayer! Though there is also the now weekly Firsdays parties (tonight with Atomly) at SB3, officially or unofficially “Sexy Bitch”.
Carl Craig is just one of these masters who doesn’t need to be presented anymore: we all know his name is synonymous to Original Techno. Recently he treated all of us with his two different remixes on Morgan Geist’s “Detroit”, flawless… as usual. While Dixon perfectly inserted the Remix 2 yesterday night at Midweek Techno in Boston, we are deeply in love with Remix 1. Listen to it just once and you will be instantly addicted: it is the freshest approach to the original Detroit Techno sound we’ve heard in a long time!
As for SuperMayer, the german combo promises a great time as well, with some more pop, funky, housey and groovy music. Perfect for a Thursday night of dancing! Neil Aline and Alex from Tokyo will be taking care of the Santos basement taking it intimate and deep like they know how to.
Both acts will have to shake up a knowledgeable public at Cielo and Santos. But if the surprise effect received in Carl Craig’s new productions transcribes to his set tonight, well… we might already have a winner!
This is the first party in a series that will celebrate the reunion of great American talents on the common EXTRACTION compilation project. We will be stopping in Miami, Boston, Omaha, San Francisco, Denver, Miami and many other cities in the US and around the world. The CD compilation will officially be released in October 2008.
Stay tuned for more and if you are in NYC this Friday September 19th, come to Bar 13 for a night of the highest quality electronic music taking you from a nice drummy house to deeper house and techno.

Last week-end took place the annual Festival for Independent Music of Buenos Aires, uniting not only the Argentine music industry’s key players, but also people from South America and the rest of the world. Obviously AirDrop had to have a dedicated space to represent our work and going-ons in Argentina and more. We were very happy to receive many people over the course of the week-end, may it have been for a Mario game on Sega or a chat about the label and its artists. We would like to thank especially Telexx for taking care of the stand throughout the week-end, Fase for decorating the booth so warmly and Kat for spinning some proper tunes on her turntables. Here are a few pictures.
