!!! AIRPOD Nº10 - LUNATIK !!!

29 07 2008

We are very happy to celebrate our Tenth AirPod with a special guest:

Lunatik has been creating and interpreting electronic music for over a decade. Whether via energetic and diverse DJ sets, or his eclectic live show, the elements of sound and space are translated into a unique sonic signature.

Hailing from the indie-music mecca of Omaha, Aaron utilizes the ethos of independence in relation to his techno compositions. Whether by building custom synth patches or embarking on quests for field recordings, Lunatik’s work can embody concept while maintaining dancefloor functionality.

With a host of releases on forward thinking labels such as Leftroom, Kassette, and Communique along with maintaining his label Wreckless, Lunatik has managed to maintain a constant state of engagement. The culmination of his 2008 work will be released as his first artist album on Leftroom sub-label Leftout.

The color of sound : vibrant and subdued. Analog vintage digital intangibles. Minimal axioms reflection of maximums. Sound found and creations created. Reality debated participation abated. In favor of myriad sonic flavours.

And we are also happy to announce that Lunatik will be playing at our next function!
Its called AIRDROP WARNING SIGN and will be happening on August 8th, at Bar 13 in NYC. RSVP, and come listen to one of the most promising and talented artist this northern part of the continent has to offer. New York City’s Memek will be accompanying Lunatik as well as AirDrop residents Sergio and Paulo

Tastes of the Future 001

28 07 2008

Artwork by Maria Bedoian

We have decided to launch a new post called “Tastes of the Future” to give your ears a preview of releases that will come out on AirDrop. We are always excited when one of our artists sends us a new remix or a freshly baked super dope track. And we wanted to share that feeling with you too…

It was not too long ago that we first started to receive demos and thankfully we have found some talented producers around the world. The track that is being previewed this week is a remix by Restart & Stone featuring VieSse. They are 4 young upbeat Italian artists that have really shown us some great material and a very positive open minded attitude that is an integral part of AirDrop.

So without making you wait any longer… why don’t you take a listen to a Retart & Stone loves VieSse remix of Minimaril’s Black Hole Hooked track which we released as part of the Samba EP.

minitek tickets are back

21 07 2008

We are very proud to have some of our fellow artists and friends on this line up and also just very eager to see this festival happen. The tickets went back on sale on RA for $60 (+fee), which I think is a pretty amazing deal for a line up like this and in NYC! They also now have VIP tickets selling for $150, with special bathroom access! Now that’s what I am talking about, no more stinky over abused port a potties. Honestly, when I heard minitek was doing a festival, I was expecting steeper prices, but am quite relieved to see that its quite affordable.

Now the minitek website is up and running as well as the “9 weeks” Butane podcast which sounds great and can be downloaded here. They have also kept the venue vail going a little bit longer, but at least have said that there will be two venues, an evening and daytime one (and maybe even a shuttle service between the two)

AirPod Nº9 - Clip

21 07 2008

Now everyone, listen carefully: this is a very special mix we prepared just for you. Our great friend Clip is one of these rare artists that keep their head on their shoulders, remain humble and discreet … but will turn the spot upside-down with perfect selections, flawless style and personal vision.

Clip has been DJing for the last 9 years, he still regularly plays and has opened for some acts such as Superpitcher or Barem in his homeland of Buenos Aires. His productions merge Tech-House with Minimal, creating original, funny and funky grooves, sometimes including dub structures.

After appearing on our Extraction Compilation as Peter Pan Project, Clip will be presenting ‘Dub Etnic’ in a few weeks, it will be his first release on AirDrop Records and features a very special remix act!

Be on the lookout for the very special 10th AirPod episode!

Loco Dice @ Cielo

17 07 2008

Despite having a fever, Loco Dice held everything together and played an all night long set in honor of his latest album release 7 Dunham Place. His productions are dope at least 3 of the tracks are total hits like the joyful “La Esquina,” the dirty “Tight Laces”, or his bouncy dance floor killer that is “Pimp Jackson is talking now.” His album is available on Beatport and pretty much everywhere!

As for the night at Cielo, it is increasingly difficult to find a non-meathead infested place in the meat packing district, so our crew of friends had to spend a bit of time chatting outside in time for all the yuppies to leave us with a semi packed dance floor that we could share exclusively with Loco. We forgave him for a few technical missteps and all in all everyone there had a good time and could only speak highly of Dice’s addictive swinging rhythms.

Loco Dice vs Gregor Tresher

9 07 2008

Loco Dice is coming to NYC, with more hype than ever touring for his 7 Dunham Place release and Gregor Tresher is making his NYC debut after being voted best techno DJ by Beatport. It will be a hard pick between the two and in fact one could do both given the distance between the places Hiro and Cielo. Biatch Corp is presenting a strong line up with Derek Plaslaiko, Giovanni, Pito and Karaskilla and have not had a party in a while, so it will definitely be big, since it’s also their Hiro Ballroom debut!

minimoo ends its second season

9 07 2008

New York will have to wait a couple months before minimoo strikes again with the minitek festival and maybe another season of moo debauchery. They have just finished their second season of minimoo which travelled beyond its birth place to cities far away from the roof tops and old breweries of New York. London, LA and Miami were thankful to receive the crew for one time shabangs.

Over the course of the season, the crew brought us artists like Guido Schneider, Ambivalent, Butane, Paul Ritch, Paco Osuna, Magda vs Konrad Black and Davide Squillace.

As for the closing party, start with the indoor before finishing it off on a roof top after-pre-party for Independence Day. Memek is truly a gem, no matter which headlining artist comes to play, Memek always shines with fresh new tunes and nice finds like Pay For Me by Daniel Steinberg or our newly released Veo Mi Terraza by Fase Miusic Sender (see video below). Butane was explosive, destroying the heated dancefloor till the end before starting up the after with some great tunes, old and new, like Melchior Productions‘ first release on Playhouse, Let’s Go Deep (a real house gem) or Audion’s Billy Says Go. (You can find both on beatport.)

FEEDBACK

AirDrop Records are wetting their knickers as they are dying to officially announce their next digital release! Guess by who? Fase Miusic Sender of course, accompanied by fellow Buenos Aires producer Sr. Replicante who gets into the Miusic spirit and knocks us backwards with his rump-shaking remix!

Fase Miusic Sender, the Buenos Aires audio-visual quadruplet who recently supplied a massive mix accompanied by a stunning animated video clip exclusively produced for AirPod, outgun their successful track “Missing Keyframes” (released on AirDrop’s recent “Extraction” compilation) by delivering a follow-up that’s clearly heading towards “Disaster”!

Welcome to the wicked world of Fase where music, painting, street art and motion graphics all warp into one! The collective, founded in 2000, is consisting of the four artists Gustavo Gagliardo, Leandro Waisbord, Pedro Perelman and Martin Tibabuzo, who live and operate in Buenos Aires and Germany.

Simultaneously working on various audio-visual DJ/Production-VJ-projects, the Fases produce multi-discipline shows that abduct the audience, taking them straight into their very own Mundo where Detroit’s musical underground and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s paintings are cross-bred references which helped to shape their very own vision of things.

“Veo Mi Terraza” is a genius strike: Executed and performed by Gustavo and Pedro, the two musical brain children that are the driving forces of Fase Miusic Sender, this deep and eerie exploration of sound is pure experimentation aimed at the floor. The groove is the driving force: Using powerful kicks and basses coming right out of the lowest stratospheres of the planet, they create a dark robotic atmosphere and fill it with strange climatic micro tech sounds consisting of aquatic planes, metallic clicks, slippy glitches and video-gaming bleeps (also key elements of their gripping live set).

Employing graphic language, Fase keeps fantasy, synthesis, abstraction and powerful colors as main focus, which can be felt in “Lejano Oeste” which paints a raw and seductive picture of something that cannot quite be grasped although it’s compelling enough to move any floor.

Sr. Replicante, a true Buenos Aires original whose deep love for all Detroit and wonky has had great influence on the Argentinean youth, does a great job bending the original into a the wobbly “Veo Mi T-RAW-ZA” multi-layered, tricky affair that sounds neither easy nor going. Demanding total attention, it slowly hi-jacks the senses and takes over the body. Resistance is futile!

Building their own universe consisting of organically evolving structures, Fase Miusic Sender is readily adapting to the evolution of music. Music that’s creating visuals, visuals creating music… The circle is complete.
