AirPod N°7 – Fase – Video + Live!

May 30, 2008

[youtube -jxdSfKYE1s]

FASE MIUSIC SENDER – DISASTER (LIVE SET)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This is a very special episode, paying honour to Fase Miusic Sender, the Buenos Aires audio-visual quatuor. For this AirPod N°7, we are very happy to present you with two parts, a visual Part 1 with the video clip for Fase’s Missing Keyframes, which appears on our Extraction compilation. This video was EXCLUSIVELY MADE FOR AIRPOD!!! And an audio Part 2 with Fase’s new live set: Disaster! So put all of this amazing content on your iPod and enjoy the whole world of Fase! This is without mentionning that we are dying to officially announce our next digital release! Guess who?? Fase M.S of course, accompanied by a Sr. Replicante remix! How amazing is that… you will tell us very soon!!

Behind Fase are: Gustavo Gagliardo, Leandro Waisbord, Pedro Perelman and Martin Tibabuzo. Fase is a collective founded in the year 2000, that is active in Buenos Aires and works on both end of the audio-visual spectrum. From musical production to visual animation and street-art to VJing, Fase finalizes all-inclusive projects and shows, which create a truly complete realm, allowing it to fully expressing their vision. On the musical side, even if experimentation surrounds a Techno essence, some sounds have been surviving since the very foundation of Fase: Aquatic sounds, clicks and glitches, video-gaming bleeps. Fase keeps the groove as main purpose, using kicks and basses to create melodies coming right from the under layers of the earth, factory sounds and darkness. Detroit Underground and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work can stand as referents to the universe they perpetually share. Fase Miusic Sender plans its live sets to build climates and organically evolving structures. The video sequencing that comes to complete Fase’s world, is solely dependent of, and exclusively adapting to the evolution of the music. Exploring the graphic language, Fase keeps fantasy, synthesis, abstraction and powerful colors as main visual focus. Music expressing visuals, visuals expressing music… The circle is now complete.

D is for Detroit

May 28, 2008

Unfortunately, it is quite tough to do live blogging like Beatportal when on a marathon party binge, so I have saved all of the news and updates for this one overall update. It was our first time in Detroit, so we did not know exactly what to expect, especially after the other festivals we have been to. We drove all the way from Boston, which baffled most Detroit residents, so it was more than a pleasant surprise when we arrived at day 1 to pick up our tickets and head to the Beatport stage to see Eric Johnston and Alland Byallo throw down some groovy-jacking-detroit techno. Surely, there was some fusion between the days, nights and mornings that led to the usual confusion on the time and place.

The great part about DEMF is that the festival all takes place at Hart Plaza, so when hesitating between a bouncing Josh Wink set or a pounding Paul Ritch live all you have to do is dance your way over from one stage to the other. Then when the festival is over around 12 AM you just head to one of the afters like reSOLUTE, Temporary Tattoos, Old Miami, Accelerate or Beretta (or when you are done with the afters, you head over the festival: it is one big cycle of love, partying and I guess I would have to say degeneracy.)

NYC definitely was in full fury at DEMF and represented both as party goers and party organizers like the reSOLUTE and Temporary Tattoos party. The reSOLUTE party had a pretty crazy lineup Maetrik, Pheek, Memek, Connie, Stefny, Camea, Miss Fitz, Elon and Katou. It was definitely one of the best parties, the fruit being passed around definitely helped and in all honesty, I think it was one of the most hospitable venues. The owner (I am pretty sure) was probably the most hardcore partier of all – passing around bottles of vodka for people to take shots at 11 AM? The watermelon was refreshing and probably kept me there ’til the end. Check out the video of Camea playing out on the patio. She is playing Marco Carolla’s Jackpot- simple yet very effective track. You can pick it up at beatport.

[youtube wcS-SkxHGbk]

Miss Fitz played an amazing all vinyl set as did most of the big DJ’s like ZIP, who was definitely among the top artists of the festival. His set really fused the old and the new, the techno and the house – perfection! Apparently he also destroyed the Accelerate party, which was attended by only part of our crew.

Temporary Tattoos was also a good time. It was no where near as long as reSOLUTE, but definitely was a great party with Jamie Jones, Martin Landsky, Bruno Pronsato, Derek Plaslaiko and Mikael Stravöstrand.

Also, for the New Yorkers, this weekend reSOLUTE is hitting us up with a Clink showcase boatparty with Afternoon Coffee Boys (Tony Rohr & Tim Xavier), Camea, Connie, and more. You can expect an amazing time so get your tickets quick while they are still available.

Check out more videos and pictures coming soon.

AirDrop Quack Party

May 20, 2008

Photobucket

First came giraffes, now ducks! We had the Giraffe release party up in Boston at Midweek Techno, the Boston techno party that takes place at Phoenix Landing every Wednesday . This time we decided to have the party in NYC, where we can really pump up the volume and even party past 1AM (for the New Yorkers reading, Boston closes earrrrrlly)

So this time around we are going to host the party at Bar 13, one of our favorite spots in NYC. It has a great sound system, knows what’s up with music, a dance floor, decently priced drinks and best of all a roof top that makes you forget where you are.

For this party, we are bringing down the Boston Family, a tight nit crew that plays together and collaborates on musical productions from time to time. Since it is the die Ente release, our second vinyl (available for distributors and record stores) featuring Soulclap and Tanner Ross for the evil B-side remix. Tanner Ross is fresh off his latest Lower Allston release with Freerange Records under his Marcel Wave alias, and I must say it is one of my favorites at the moment, so definitely check it out. Soulclap and Tanner Ross will both be playing the latest tunes, as well as Sergio Santos and Pat Fontes, residents of midweek techno.

The party is going to be crazy and may even involve a duck hunt at some point where we will give out some nice little goodies (new releases, tshirts, vinyl). RSVP for reduced admission at info@airdrop.com

Minitek is coming…

May 18, 2008

It has been made official, New York City will no longer be a dry desert for electronic music and to be honest, lately it has been a jungle. Several people have really watered up the NYC nightscape bringing in top talent and continually fostering local talent. Special thanks to minimoo, Blk Marketmembership, Bunker, Biatch Corp, LESS, Bar 13 and reSolute you have all participated in reviving NY. Last night was a very special evening for NYC electronic music, it was the official announcement of Minitek Festival, a 3 day event to take place on September 12th, 13th and 14th. For this special evening, minimoo united some of the leading artists of the NYC scene and it despite not having Matthew Dear, Paco Osuna or other more internationally renown name, I am not alone in saying that it was by far one of the best minimoos ever! Naudio, Alka Rex, Taimur, Memek and Elon all took turns destroying the dancefloor to pieces. Memek played Minimaril’s Too Young to be Famous and it was huge! Check out the video (we have more videos on airdroptv):

[youtube HzkFSdvFl78]

As for the festival, just enough information has been given to keep our mouths watering and dancing for more. A few of the headliners are Richie Hawtin, Magda, Paco Osuna, Seph (live), Guy Gerber (live), Marco Carolla, Camea, Pan Pot, and more! for all announced headliners watch the video! The venue is not yet announced, but will be treated like an official festival, who knows beatport may even have a stage!

DEMF DEMF Party

May 16, 2008

We are on quite a roll this year, I mean we really are, I think between the AirDrop & Soulclap crew we have seen just about every DJ/producer that we dig, I mean having been to the South American Music Conference, some Ups! parties, Extracto’s, then the Winter Music Conference, a few minimoos here and there, some Bar 13, maybe a little bit of Cielo too, o and I almost forgot Heidi at Studio B. Anyway, so definitely a lot of amazing nights and mornings.

But now is the time when we get ready to go back to the origins of where all of this began and that is in Detroit. So next week we are going to load up Cnyce’s prius with 3 dudes, 1 dudette, 50 die Ente vinyl, 100 Samba CDs, as many pairs of sunglasses as possible, some duck keychains, just enough money to survive and the passion to break world records of marathon partying.

The line up for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival aka DEMF is pretty huge and reads like a who is who of the top labels. They still have not quite understood the AirDrop phenomenon, but like we say in french “chaque chose en son temps”… So it will most likely be for next year we hope!

Here is a little preview of the artists there and that we plan on seeing: Italoboyz (yea we love them and they kill Soulclap tunes), Miss Fitz(looking very forward to this and going to Resolute Party!!), Cobblestone Jazz, Minus party and the crew from Temporary Tattoos party (from the makers, creators and destroyers of WMC’s Cheap Sunglasses).

BUY DIGITAL | FEEDBACK

I met Mariano (a.k.a Minimaril) a little less than a year ago. When he first told me he was 19, I thought he was lying. I mean with his height and long hair, he definitely looks way older! But it is once you get to know him that you can really feel the amazing vibes that radiates from him. I still wonder how it is possible for such a nice person to exist in the often ego-dominated Techno realm. Freshness!

Of Venezuelean origin, Mariano has been living all his life in Buenos Aires and DJing for 5 years now. He started very young, learning directly on the field, since he never even owned turntables, and quickly made his way to the most important booths of the Argentine capital!

This unique energy and natural understanding of music imprints on his productions. Minimaril’s beats are bright sharp, groovy and will always make you bounce. He sends me a new track every other day, all of them more powerful than the last one. With such a clear vision, his music really seems to be animated by a higher force!

His debut track, Too Young to be Famous, on our AirDrop presents Extraction, is the best-seller out of all tracks on the compilation!

The Samba EP unites three of Minimaril’s original productions. He explores two different dimensions of the project, first, with a super deep synth line-driven Part 1, and then with a massively rolling Part 2. The ode to percussions started by Samba is rounded with Black Hole Hooked, which features hypnotic sax riffs, dark voices and huge funk.

To bring the EP to another level, we had our Special Boston Task Force, Soulclap, to remix Samba 1 & 2. I was persuaded, like most of you I am sure (otherwise go back to school), that 1 + 2 = 3, but the united powers of Bean Town’s Super Soulclap and B.A’s Minimaril defy mathematics. Don’t even doubt it, just buy it & listen to it!

The release is exclusively available on Juno with a special price for this week!
Support the creation of music that makes your body groove.

O and I almost forgot, Minimaril has a 12 inch coming soon on AirDrop and a few other goodies too…

Mr. Techno presents AirPod N°6

May 7, 2008

The legendary ex-raver, DJ, producer, Midweek Techno host, NuNo Recordings founder, reconverted raver, Pat Fontes has graced us with his latest mix for our new AirPod episode. When Pat gave me the only copy burnt of this mix, he quickly jotted down “Dripples #1″ on the CD, and the name could not be more appropriate. As usual Pat knows techno, you know, the dark addicting melodies type techno, but hey, don’t take my word, listen for yourselves.

The mix features a few of AirDrop’s tracks, some which you already heard, like Franco Cinelli‘s banging version of Soulclap‘s The Giraffe, and others that you never have… yet! For example, there is Tanner Ross‘ remix of die Ente (another Soulclap original production, coming out this month on 12″), there is also Night Patrol a raw Techno groove produced by 19 years old Frenchman Louis Encontre.

Like the true Techno Mixmaster that he is, Pat blends them with some of the most powerful and trapping tracks of the moment. Opening his mix up with an unreleased track by Japanese producer Den, remixed by Sarah Goldfarb on Mark Henning‘s label, Clever Music. The tune is so dirty and bluesy at the same time, it comes right out of the catacombs and I would easily imagine Damian Lazarus going crazy with it. Pat also includes Smash TV-member Holger Zilske‘s amazing tune The Birds, which appears on Playhouse‘s second to last release.

WARNING Some disruptions in your daily routine might occur when listening to the closing of Mr. Techno’s mix… Enjoy your new break!

Thank you Pat for all the good beats and energy you deliver. Techno Activism still exists and Mr. Techno was, is and will always be part of it.
