When I saw the flyer I did not really believe it. Moby was DJing on Tuesday at 205, a NYC hotspot on the lower East Side. I am a very big DFA fan and to hear their sounds followed by a phenomenal Moby set made my Tuesday night. I had never seen Moby live, and the small, but well decorated, and vibrant basement of 205 was not where I would expect him to spin. I was also not expecting to hear him play progressive techno that was borderline minimalist. I had always thought of Moby as more easy listening music, but he made everyone’s body rock till the point of being late for work. My expectations were off and it was absolutely amazing! Also, you should definitely check out more of DFA’s sounds and support the artists. Until next Tuesday!

AirDrop Records has just orchestrated its first release! We are big fans of the Italian indie rock band, Thank You For The Drum Machine. Their music is very upbeat and has clear electronic influences. The EP that goes by the band’s name is their first and is sure not to be their last. They are very in demand in Italy where they are currently touring and are eager to travel the world pleasuring our ears. Here is a song off their album, already available on the iTunes Store, as well as on Amazon, Myspace and Amiestreet. CD’s and Special Vinyl Edition to follow shortly.

Thank you all for your responses to our posts and joining our group. We will be launching our first piece of art merchandise under the AirDrop label. We have decided to create watches that will feature established artists from around the world; however, we have decided to also make an open call to the public for submissions to be part of the project. Please forward this to anyone you think could be interested in participating!
This is a small project which is meant to bring art to the wrist and for that reason we do have to choose a very small number of designs. The design behind the watch must be compatible with the AirDrop brand. We will release 10 watch designs the first year which can only be purchased in specific locations. This is part of the reson why we must be extremely selective.
AirDrop is looking for designs that are fun, modern, youthful, artistic, eye-catching, witty, minimalist, anime-like, etc. The subject can be completely random or can draw on particular themes that go well with the ideas behind the label whether it be electronic music, music in general, bands, the name airdrop, water, culture, etc… )
There is $$$ for the artists selected! But more importantly there is the prestige, recognition and honor of being part of the label and project.
We have a file that you should be able to modify and enter your own design. The file can be downloaded at:
http://airdropmedia.com/projects/
We look forward to reviewing your designs.
Best of Luck,
AirDrop

We have just launched a new site for mashup artists and fans named Mp3Clash. Mashups became popular with the notorious Grey Album that mixed Jay-Z’s Black Album with the legendary White Album by the Beatles. The reason for the increase in popularity is partly due to the advance in technology for the digital editing, mixing and recreating of music. I love music and many times I feel an urge and desire to experiment putting two (or more) songs I love together. Unfortunately, I am still practicing and perfecting my own skills, but have found more experienced DJ’s and musicians who have created some pretty amazing mashups. One of my personal favorites is by DJ Earworm who mixed Zdarlight by Digitalism with Feel Good by the Gorillaz with a featuring from De la Soul. The result is pretty explosive from beginning to end. Join the mp3clash network (for free) to listen to the track and keep reading our blog there.

Art is one of the most powerful forces in our society. Art can bring social change and often is a place for advanced and progressive thought. One of my favorite artists has mastered this concept and is creating positive social change in many ways. When the youth was rioting in France and expressing much of its discontent, JR sought to use art and photography to deliver a more truthful vision of the state of the youth in the projects of the Parisian suburbs. There was clearly discontent and anger, which was not hidden in the pictures, but he also showed the more positive elements such as hope and joy, often neglected and destroyed by fear from the rest of society.

His art is more than a picture and in fact became street art. He would post enlarged versions of the pictures on walls of the city where they would be seen by all, taking people out of their daily routines to think and understand what was going on with a portion of the population.

Since this project, he has continued to find ways to use art to bring positive change in our world. Check his site out for more great pictures and projects.
