Last night I was lucky to find out about an event organized by Zenbu Media at the ADC Gallery. The event starred a few emerging artists as well as some more well known celebrity art by John Lennon, Jerry Garcia, Marcel Marceau and more… Unfortunately, in the US, dead celebrity artwork is subject to the same speculative madness as the internet dotcoms. In other words even with a cheap dollar some of the works are being sold for 5 times what they are sold for in other countries.
Of the up and coming art I enjoyed what I believed to be a more artistic and creative take on caricatures. Leah Falco, one of the up and coming artists present at the event is an illustrator who’s specialty is caricatures. My personal favorite was this one that I saw on her website :

I am still puzzled by who would want this more: the liberal or the republican?

I have been playing the Mono Tennis (Mono is Monkey in Spanish) parties at Hotel Home for a couple months now, since the beginning of the Southern summer! Home was the first boutique Hotel to open up in Palermo Hollywood, Buenos Aires, which has a sweet sweet pool. (Carpets and hookas on the grass right next to the water.)
We’ve been rocking good tunes of all kinds, ranging from dub, to future and alien disco, to, airy rock and downtempo minimal. My fellow DJ, Mr.T is the owner of the Hotel, and has been a music-producer, engineer and DJ for the last decade. Miguel Castro, singer of Argentine rock band Victoria Mil came last week to play his personal favorites and will be paying us another visit soon enough. Victoria Mil is opening this week-end for Happy Mondays, at Personal Fest, where 5000 people are expected to attend.
I don’t need to say how laid back Home is: chilled drinks for the summer heat are prepared by the best barman in town. Martini sent us a projector so we could enhance the mood even more. Check the pics in our photo section.

I discovered Telexx really randomly in Buenos Aires and went to one of their concert a couple weeks ago. (See pix of the concert here). The band was formed in 2003, under the name of Caleco, but had to abandon it for legal reasons. After a couple of band member changes, Telexx is now composed by 5 musicians: drums, 2 electric guitars, 2 girlz singing who also play bass and acoustic guitar. They managed to create a style of their own, with melodies and harmonies that both challenge and comfort the expectation and perception of the listener, never losing the song structure, or the POP defended by the band.
Telexx participated to many festivals in Argentina, including Chicas en Frente! (Chix in Front) event composed by female-led and composed bands, Go to Indie or La Frutilla del Postre, which they are currently touring. They played last year with Boom Boom Kid in Uruguay. American director Dave Markey, who produced 1991: The Year that Punk Broke underlines Telexx as a notorious local talent.
You can listen to some of their tracks (including my personal favourite Artoboi) on their MySpace, here.
